Are you seeing a decline in organic reach on your Facebook page? Many are trying to increase those numbers by putting by boosting posts or running like campaigns on their business pages to get likes.
We started seeing a decline in reach in 2012 when only 16% of Facebook fans from a business were seeing page posts in their newsfeeds, and that number has gotten smaller as the years pass. Edgerank Checker found that between 2012 and 2014, organic reach for the average Facebook Page dropped from 16% to 6.5%.
A few years later in 2016, SocialFlow analyzed over 3,000 posts by publishers on Facebook and found that organic reach dropped 42% between the months of January and May.
So, why the decline in organic Facebook reach? For one, there’s A LOT of content out there being published about topics that are relevant to what you may be posting about. This makes the visibility of your content in News Feeds increasingly competitive. Another reason is that Facebook aims to try and show people the content that is most relevant to the audience selected. While this is a huge bummer from a business perspective, there are ways you can counteract these changes. Here are some ways you can increase that organic reach again:
- Be selective about what you’re posting – Get as much interaction from a single post as possible. And make sure it’s targeted to a specific audience to improve overall interaction.
- Take notice to when you are publishing – Posting at the optimal times when people may be on their mobile devices looking at content is the best time to post. Dive into your audience insights and see when the most interaction occurs from when your posts are being published.
- Put money behind your posts – The more money the wider the reach. You can now pay to reach more people based on demographics, interests and web behaviors!
Fewer people reached means less engagement, clicks, comments, and shares. Sad, right? This overall results to a lower number of leads and potential customers.
If you REALLY want to reach people in 2018, you are going to have to put money towards paid advertising to reach your target audience!
