Meet Corrie Castro, Our Social Media Manager!

blankHow long have you been working at iFocus?

I’ve been with iFocus for almost a year. Time just flies by!

Describe what you do.

I’m the head of our social media department, so I curate and oversee all of our organic social media content. I’m also in charge of all of our paid social advertising and handle our online reputation management services for our clients.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

I would say it changes from day to day. I spend the first week of the month reviewing analytics and reporting for content and advertising, and get those reports over to our account managers so they can go over monthly performance with the client. After I get all of that completed, I spend my time working with the team to help write and review content and engage on our clients’ social media accounts and monitor their ad campaigns. I also spend a lot of time on a monthly basis strategizing with the account team about advertising and getting feedback about written content. Between all of that, I am monitoring our review platforms for our clients and responding to reviews.

Do you have any nicknames in the office?

There are a couple of people that call me “Corecast” – that’s my name on Instagram, and what some of my close friends call me. It’s just a combination of my first and last name. My boss calls me Corrie Schmorrie, or anything he can come up with that rhymes with my first name, so that’s a thing.

What would your co-workers say is your most distinguishing feature at work?

I’m not sure what that is. I’m very tall. I’m six feet tall, so I tend to stand out and people know when I’m up and about. I think I have a unique laugh too, because several people have made comments about it, in and out of work.

Briefly talk about one of your all-time favorite iFocus projects you’ve worked on.

I have a background in video production and editing, so earlier this year I put together a video for a pet insurance client. I really liked how it turned out, it gave me the opportunity to show off some additional skills to the team, and it was something to add to our company’s portfolio. I also love building someone’s social media presence from the start. It’s great to see the progress when you start something from the beginning that you helped create. I also really enjoy seeing a successful ad campaign, and love being able to see that we have helped a client generate revenue to their business through digital advertising.

Besides your own work, what iFocus product/service is your favorite? Why?

I think our display advertising services are so cool and draw a lot of our clients into our business. I think geo-fencing is so creepy and awesome, and it seems that whenever we educate our clients about geo-fencing they are blown away by its capabilities.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I kind of just love being at home. I’m a bit of a homebody, but I love being able to walk outside and walk to a local restaurant or event. I live in downtown KC, so there is always something going on. I also love camping and have had more chances to go out and do that this summer. I enjoy exercising and it’s a great stress reliever for me, too.

What’s your favorite local KC food joint?

Ooooohhhh, so many choices. If it’s BBQ I think I’d have to say Arthur Bryant’s. I also really like Westside Local, and Garozzo’s (because pasta is life). The Jacobson is also a great little spot that I frequent because it’s a block away from my apartment.

What movie or TV show character do you most identify with?

Kristen Wiig. She is so hilarious an awkward, and I feel like we have a lot of the same mannerisms.

What’s one cool thing that has happened to you recently?

It’s my one year anniversary of being a KC resident, so that’s pretty cool! I can’t believe it’s been a year! I’m lovin’ life here. I also didn’t get charged for chapstick the other day at the store. Woohoo!

Describe your ideal weekend getaway.

Spending time with my boyfriend, Jake, and exploring. I love going to new places and being outside. We went to Eureka Springs, AR this summer and camped and explored the town, and we had so much fun. It was only a three hour drive away, too.

Are you a cat person or a dog person?

DOGS DOGS DOGS. I love dogs. I grew up with dogs, and although I don’t currently have one, I would love one again when I’m not living on the fourth floor in a downtown apartment building.

What celebrity would you most like to have drinks and a conversation with? Why?

Kristen Wiig. See four questions up ^ .

What’s one weird quirk that you have?

This is a tough one. I don’t know if this is one, but I have trouble saying certain words. I say the word “tupperware” as, “tuppelware.” I just cannot say it with an ‘r’. I also can’t say the word “mercury.” I say it like, “meercurry.” Good thing I write content and don’t read it aloud.

What social network consumes the greatest amount of your free time?

Instagram! I’m also on Facebook a lot because I have to be for my job.

What’s one of your favorite quotes?

“Never let other people define you.”

Describe one thing that’s a source of inspiration for you.

I’m a part of a couple of industry networking groups on social media and I love reading about their career stories and how they got started, where they are now and how things have changed for them in their career. Powerful, strong women are also super inspiring for me because I feel like it’s what our country needs right now.

What’s your favorite part about working at iFocus?

I love my team. There isn’t one person here that I don’t get along with. We all work really hard when we need to, but we also love to just laugh and have a good time, too. We have a very relaxed work environment and I love being part of a supportive team. I can always count on someone to help me out if I’m swamped.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from working at iFocus thus far?

I’d have to say the analytics side of things. I came from a creative agency before and iFocus is so much different in the way that we are driven by results and analytics. Diving into data and results on a regular basis is something that is new for me, and now, I really enjoy seeing what worked and what didn’t work and growing and moving forward with those results.
