How long have you been working at iFocus?
I have been at iFocus for eight months now.
Describe what you do.
My job has many hats. My official title is Social Media Specialist/Account Coordinator. I work on the social media management team creating and managing content for client social pages. I also do some geofencing, graphic design, manage reviews, and put needed information together for ad campaigns.
What does a typical workday look like for you?
A typical work day will usually include content writing, some geofencing, ensuring that all campaigns are running smoothly, and lots of coffee for fuel.
Do you have any nicknames in the office?
Not yet, but a previous employee did call me C-Nasty once, which I found hilarious.
What would your co-workers say is your most distinguishing feature at work?
My strong work ethic and desire to learn. I want to ensure I get the most out of every work day, no matter what needs to get done.
Briefly talk about one of your all-time favorite iFocus projects you’ve worked on.
We recently signed on a pest control company based out of San Francisco. Their main focus with iFocus is to use social media to educate the public on rat infestation season. Animals give you ample opportunity to come up with creative and humorous content for your social posts. Plus, the Account Manager, Caesar, is great to collaborate with on this account.
Besides your own work, what iFocus product/service is your favorite? Why?
I would have to say SEO. I had little knowledge of the service before I began working here, but the whole bidding war/quality content aspect Google created is really fascinating.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I am a huge music nerd so you can find me at a record store, playing music with friends, or at a concert. I also write content for a music blog (Shameless plug: godsavethescene.co). I also like working out, being outdoors. trying new restaurants, and spending time with friends and family at any KC dive bar/brewery.
What’s your favorite local KC food joint?
This is a tough question, because I am such a foodie. Green Room Burgers & Fries in Westport won me over a few years ago. There is no better burger than their breakfast burger. I also have to give a shout out to Mockingbird Lounge in Strawberry Hill. They have the best brunch and are one of the coolest hidden gems in KC.
What movie or TV show character do you most identify with?
I have been told by strangers and friends alike that I look and act like Nick Miller from New Girl. Works for me because Zooey Deschanel is my celebrity crush, so hopefully it works out in my favor.
What’s one cool thing that has happened to you recently?
Last year I went to Austin City Limits Music Festival with some old friends from home in Austin, TX. Seeing Paul McCartney live was a once in a lifetime moment that I’ll always remember.
Describe your ideal weekend getaway.
One of two things! Exploring a new city filled with good food, new beer, exciting sites, and live music OR a big camping trip filled with hiking, friends, and zero technology.
Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Both. When I moved to KC last year, I worked at a dog daycare. But, I do have to say that my family’s cat, Donnie, is the best cat to ever live. We even started brewing beer last year and every label features a picture of her.
What celebrity would you most like to have drinks and a conversation with? Why?
Josh Tillman AKA Father John Misty. He’s one of my all-time favorite song writers and has such an interesting insight on the human experience. I would love to pick his brain for a night.
What’s one weird quirk that you have?
I will usually get the same meal at each restaurant I go to unless something really piques my interest.
What social network consumes the greatest amount of your free time?
I would like to consider Spotify a social media account at this point with the amount of social interaction you can have personalizing and sharing music with others. I have put in far too much work since 2013 on my playlists. If I had to choose one of the big accounts, definitely YouTube.
What’s one of your favorite quotes?
“We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.” – Charles Bukowski
Describe one thing that’s a source of inspiration for you.
Seeing friends and colleagues have a passion in every thing that they do. It really keeps you motivated and wanting more from life.
What’s your favorite part about working at iFocus?
The culture. I love everyone who works here. Each of my coworkers has something unique about them that I could brag about. I find that important in any team.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from working at iFocus thus far?
Take your time. My mind can go kind of crazy when I see deadlines, but I learned that if you just breathe and put in your best effort, everything will work out.
