What do you do at iFocus?
My title is Social Media Account Coordinator. Day to day I plan and schedule content for some of our clients and grow their social media followings. I also dive into their analytics to see what posts perform well and what people engage with.
What is your social media background?
I started a fashion blog in 2017 as a hobby and creative outlet. After doing that for a while I realized I really loved social media and started freelance blogging and working with different fashion and beauty brands. I was able to grow my following and still keep up with it. After I moved to Kansas City in May, I started an agency career in social media. I’m still fairly new to agency life but have loved learning all about the industry.
Do you have any nicknames?
I don’t have any super fun or cool nicknames but in high school my principal could never say my name correctly and always called me Marlee which stuck as a joke and is now my blogger social media handle. In college, my friends called me Michelle because I reminded them of Michelle Obama (humble brag).
What do you like to do in your free time?
I really love watching TV and listening to music. I have a lot of shows and artists I keep up with. I also love shopping and taking pictures for my blog. I really love to travel and go to music festivals as well.
What’s your favorite local KC food joint?
I haven’t been in KC very long, but I really like Kansas City Taco Company and Pier 88.
What movie or TV show character do you most identify with?
Linda Blecher from Bob’s Burgers. She loves her family, is quick witted and sings much too often. My boyfriend and I joke that we’re a lot like Bob and Linda.
What’s one cool thing that has happened to you recently?
I recently took a trip to New York City for the Governor’s Ball Music Festival. We saw a lot of great artists there even though we didn’t get to see who we came for. It got rained out the last day and if you search #govball2019 on Twitter there are videos of how the last night ended a lot like Fyre Fest. It was an experience I’ll always remember.
Describe your ideal weekend getaway.
My ideal weekend getaway would be taking a road trip with friends to Denver to go shopping and to a concert!
Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Cat person all the way! I have a cat named Bella and my boyfriend has a cat named Cash. They are best friends and I think of them like my children.
What celebrity would you most like to have drinks and a conversation with? Why?
Kim Kardashian. No one can deny that she is glamorous and has an amazing lifestyle. I would love to have a conversation with her because she was able to build up her brand and make a name for herself despite getting a lot of hate along the way. I’d love to pick her brain on how she was able to do that, and get the hot goss on Kanye and the rest of the family.
What’s one weird quirk that you have?
I can wiggle my ears without touching them!
What social network consumes the greatest amount of your free time?
Instagram or YouTube! I love being immersed in these networks to find out about fashion and beauty trends.
What’s one of your favorite quotes?
“Bloom where you’re planted.”
Describe one thing that’s a source of inspiration for you.
My parents are my biggest inspiration. They have a great relationship and have always done everything they could to provide for our family. They’ve taught us good values, their love for us, and all of their hard work pushes me to me just like them and provide for a family of my own someday.
What keeps you motivated?
I stay motivated by remembering that there is always more to learn and there is always someone better than I am at the things I’m passionate about.
What’s your favorite part about working at iFocus so far?
My favorite part about iFocus is how supportive my coworkers are. Being fairly new to the industry I still have a lot to learn and my coworkers have been really great at teaching me new things and helping me out. I also really love the creative and collaborative environment here. There is always more to learn, and we can always be better as a team.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from working at iFocus thus far?
The most important thing I’ve learned is to use all of my resources and think outside the box. To stay ahead of the curve, we need to be thinking ahead and asking questions that haven’t been asked before!
