Industry Focus for Friday, January 6, 2023
Our team set our New Year’s resolution with intention: keep learning about digital marketing strategy and the latest industry trends.
We’re proud to say that, six days into the year, we’re still going strong. After all, it’s what we do!
This week, the iFocus Marketing team looked back at 2022 trends and continued planning for 2023 campaigns. Our most-discussed topics reflected these themes.
“The 30 Best Ads of 2022,” by Shannon Miller and Brittaney Kiefer in Ad Week
“The willingness to go out on a limb” was the theme for the best ads last year, according to Ad Week. Advertisers got creative and tried new things – and saw great success as a result. We’re inspired to keep this mindset going in 2023. Did your favorite ad make the list?

“LinkedIn Announces 7 Updates Coming In 2023,” by Matt G. Southern in Search Engine Journal
We’re looking forward to lots of things in 2023, and new features for social media is definitely something to get excited about. LinkedIn announced their plans for this year, some of which will benefit B2B marketers: improved video accessibility, alt-text functionality in Campaign Manager, updates to B2B product search functionality, post scheduling, and content analytics. These additions will not only provide more metrics to marketers, but allow us – and our clients – to get in front of the right audiences more easily.

“Google’s ‘Remove Redundant Keywords’ Recommendations Have Changed,” by Nicole Farley in Search Engine Land
Paid media marketers rang in the new year with a big update for Google PPC ads. Previously, Google’s recommendations would point out redundant keywords within ad groups – but starting January 19, their recommendations will begin including keywords across match types. We recommend turning off auto-apply recommendations in both Editor and the Ads front end; sometimes it takes a knowledgeable human touch to produce the most effective ads.
