A locally owned Kansas City original benefits from a targeted leads strategy to increase their regional product sales footprint

Company Overview

A true staple in Kansas City since its inception in 1946, Gates Bar-B-Q is a family owned company that’s considered a true Kansas City original in the world of barbecue. While the brand has undergone many shifts throughout the decades, they find themselves now with six restaurants located throughout Kansas City, along with a full range of spices and sauces that are available online and in grocery stores across the midwest.


The Goals

While the Gates brand is well-known in the Kansas City area for their BBQ restaurants, they have a significant amount of competition in the sauce and spices portion of their business. What's more, their brand isn't as widely known outside of the KC area, so the sale of these products in grocery stores outside of Kansas City was a pain point for them. Their goal in coming on with us was to drive the sale of these products online, in their stores, and in the stores of their regional grocery partners.


The Strategy

With a combination of PPC advertising, display advertising (focused on site retargeting), and social advertising, we were not only able to expand brand awareness for Gates in regions outside of the Kansas City metro, but the client also saw an increase in sales across the board, particularly in online sales.


The Results

In three months' time...

Total website visitors increased 14% year over year, with a 15% increase in new users

Paid social ads reached over 138,000 barbecue enthusiasts across the midwest

Quality of site traffic improved drastically, with overall pageviews increasing 112% YoY

Total online sales reached $27,892 in this time period
