Women who power the trades

Women in Construction Week (March 1–7, 2026) is a time to recognize the leadership, skill, and impact of women across the construction and remodeling industries.

Through our Built Strong campaign, iFOCUS is proud to spotlight five women who are shaping job sites, guiding clients, preserving history, and strengthening the skilled trades through their expertise and dedication.

At iFOCUS, we believe supporting workforce development and industry leadership go hand in hand with driving business growth. If you’re in construction, remodeling, or the skilled trades, we’d be proud to support your next phase of growth.

Jody Kinzler

CEO of Blue Oak Commercial Cleaning

Jody Kunzler is a Kansas City native, entrepreneur, and proud mom of two daughters who inspire her every day. As Owner and CEO of Blue Oak Commercial Cleaning, she leads with dedication, integrity, and a strong commitment to delivering reliable, high-quality service to every client.

Outside of business, Jody enjoys spending time with her girls creating meaningful memories, whether at the park or during cozy movie nights at home. She has a passion for gardening and finds joy in cultivating vibrant backyard blooms — a reflection of the care and attention she brings to growing her business.

When she finds a moment to recharge, Jody enjoys time on the golf course, soaking in the sunshine and perfecting her swing. Her life is a balance of family, growth, and entrepreneurship, and she brings that same energy and care into everything she does.

Rebecca Green

Sheet Metal Apprentice

Rebecca Green is a dedicated sheet metal apprentice with SMART Local #67 in San Antonio whose journey reflects resilience, determination, and the strength of community. A devoted mother, Rebecca entered the union trades in 2021 seeking a more stable and fulfilling future for her children.

Shortly after joining the union, Rebecca experienced the loss of her brother, whose encouragement inspired her to pursue the skilled trades. With the support of her union brothers and sisters, she found strength during a difficult time and a deep sense of belonging. What began as a career opportunity quickly became a path of personal transformation.

Balancing motherhood, full-time work, and apprenticeship training, Rebecca returned to school in 2022 to deepen her technical knowledge and craftsmanship. Her commitment and perseverance earned her recognition as Apprentice of the Month in 2024, along with milestones including financial independence, participation in the women’s committee, and building a stable future for her family.

Rebecca believes success is not defined by a traditional path, but by resilience, lifelong learning, and the support of a strong community. Today, she continues to grow in her trade while setting an example for her children — demonstrating that perseverance, pride in one’s work, and unity can build a meaningful and empowered future.

Her work reflects a deep respect for historic craftsmanship and a commitment to preserving the character and stories embedded in older homes.

Lilia Martinez

Sheet Metal Foreman, SMART Local #54

Lilia Martinez is a Sheet Metal Foreman with SMART Local #54 whose leadership is rooted in confidence, mentorship, and a deep commitment to advancing women in the construction industry. Beginning her career at a young age in residential work, Lilia steadily grew into leadership roles through determination, skill development, and a strong work ethic.

As a foreman, Lilia leads by example — arriving prepared, asking thoughtful questions, and standing firm in meetings to ensure clarity, safety, and team success. She believes that competence builds confidence and prioritizes teaching practical skills such as blueprint reading, tool safety, and clear crew communication.

Passionate about supporting women in a traditionally male-dominated field, Lilia mentors and encourages others by sharing her journey, advocating for fair treatment, and recommending women for growth opportunities. She actively supports women-focused construction initiatives and fosters environments where women feel heard, supported, and empowered to succeed.

Lilia believes that seeing another woman succeed on the job can inspire others to pursue their own path in the trades. Through mentorship, advocacy, and leadership, she is helping build a stronger, more inclusive future for the construction industry.
