iFOCUS is hiring a Content Proofreader to be the final quality check for client-facing work across content, SEO, paid media, and social. You’ll make sure every word we send out the door is polished, accurate, and aligned to the brand and strategy behind it.
This role demands a sharp eye for detail, strong grammar and editing skills, and the ability to adapt tone and format for a variety of industries and content types. You’ll work alongside client service managers, SEO specialists, digital strategists, and our content team to shape internal proofreading standards and write clear content briefs.
About iFOCUS
iFOCUS Marketing & Advertising is a digital-first marketing and advertising agency headquartered in the heart of the Midwest. We aspire to be your trusted architect in the digital-first marketing and advertising landscape, crafting customized strategies that align with each client’s unique business objectives. Our insights drive innovation and inspire audiences, bringing every brand we touch into focus.
We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach to marketing or operate from checklists. We custom-develop growth plans based on data, pivoting when necessary to deliver results. Because we’re curious and a little restless, we adopt proven new tools and platforms early, so our clients unlock marketing tactics and media that break from tradition.
What You’ll Do
- Review and edit content (your own and others’) for grammar, punctuation, syntax, tone, and consistency across blogs, web, social, email, and ad copy.
- Verify client-specific details (names, products, services, statistics, locations, industry terminology) are accurate before content moves to publication.
- Make sure every client-facing deliverable aligns with AP Style or the client’s custom style guide.
- Perform quality assurance on digital copy for readability, flow, and adherence to channel best practices.
- Use tools like Grammarly to support, not replace, strong editorial judgment.
- Help establish and maintain internal proofreading checklists and content quality standards.
- Write clear, actionable content briefs that align writers around audience, intent, keywords, and tone.
- Engage directly with clients on style questions, feedback rounds, and final approvals when needed.
- Other duties as assigned and amended at the discretion of the Sr. Director of SEO.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, creative or technical writing, or equivalent professional experience.
- 2–4 years of professional proofreading, editing, or content QA experience in a marketing, advertising, or publishing setting.
- Demonstrated proofreading or editing portfolio. Please highlight this in your application.
- Working knowledge of AP Style and the ability to apply custom client style guides.
- Strong understanding of SEO best practices and principles for digital marketing content.
- Ability to learn the details of multiple client businesses (services, products, terminology, audience) to ensure content is accurate and on-brand for each.
- Exceptional grammar, punctuation, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.
- Self-starter with high accountability and a willingness to learn and grow.
- Hybrid role based in Overland Park, KS, with a minimum of two days per week in the office. Kansas City Metro candidates only.
Bonus Points
- Agency or multi-client experience.
- Familiarity with project management tools.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail).
- Working knowledge of Grammarly, SEMrush, or comparable editorial and SEO tools.
- Understanding of content accessibility standards and inclusive language practices.
What Success Looks Like
- You adapt quickly to different brand voices, industries, and client style guides.
- You’re the go-to editor teammates trust for another set of eyes.
- You catch the small inconsistencies others might miss, and you teach the team how to catch them next time.
- You care just as much about messaging impact as you do about technical correctness.
- You meet deadlines and communicate openly about progress, bandwidth, and tradeoffs.
